In AutoCAD 2000 there is a command I use constantly, called FROM. When it is invoked from within a draw command it requests selection of a point in the drawing by any of the usual methods (snap, coordinates, etc.) and then the input of the offset for the new point using @.
The only thing I can find in IntelliCAD which is similar is to use the relative coordinate system, but that confines you to only using the last point placed, not any within the drawing.
Am I missing something, or is IntelliCAD?

No problem, for a tip on how to add those, or any other commands to the middle mouse or shift + right click (depending on the variable MBUTTONPAN of Icad 2001 and later)
I copied and modified this from one of my posts at Cadopia
1.) Tools
2.) Customize
3.) Menus tab
4.) + at Settings
5.) + at entity snap
6.) pick the item you would like "from" placed before
7.) insert, menu item
8.) give name
9.) in the command box, type (from)
10.) in the help string, put whatever you want, Maybe just From
11.) Close

I know nothing about LISP, so I created a blank file, inserted the code from TIp No 11, saved the file as icad.lsp, loaded the file in ICAD, and ... nothing - get no prompt when I enter line, tried typing From or api also nothing. So what am I doing wrong?

By default, ICAD doesn't normally install an icad.lsp file, if I recall correctly. You need to create one. It is simply a text file, which resides in the same directory as icad.exe Right click, save target as.. the preceding link into the directory where ICAD.EXE is. Verify that it is saved as icad.lsp, not icad.lsp.txt (IE gets the name wrong here) For example, I use Cadopia's ICAD 2000, and ICAD.EXE is in the following folder:C:\Program Files\CADopia LLC\IntelliCAD 2000
Now open ICAD, open any drawing, or just throw in some lines. Now start the line command, when it asks for the start of the line, type the following exactly as shown,include the parenthesis
(from)
Now you will be prompted for a Base point, using Icad's snaps, select the endpoint of any line
Now at the "next point prompt", use the @ to specify a point,let's say @2,5 select an endpoint. Try the other functions that are there as well
(apm)
(api)
API is no longer necessary as ICAD 2001 and up work correctly on this. It issupposed to be that if you select intersection snap and there is no intersection inside the aperature, you should be prompted to select a second entity. This didn't work in ICAD 2000, therefore the lisp was needed. Important things to remember on using this lisp. You need to start a command before using it (line, point, circle, etc...) you need to include from inside parenthesis. You can use normal snaps after you start the from command.
