Hi, can somebody tell me what is the issue with this drawing file? CMS opens the file correctly, but when I select all entities, some odd blue polygons appear at various places. The only way I find to make them disappear is by re-opening the drawing.

Also, if I select all and try to create a block CMS freezes for a couple minutes and then it creates a block however some of the lines disappear.

I am using CMS 12.0PE+

I downloaded the file, opened and created a block, found no issues.

Thanks Stephen, I am still not sure what is causing the issue. It seems to be related to displaying the splines in the drawing, as those blue circles only appear around splines. Also, if I convert a spline to a polyline, the circles go away.

Okay, I came up with a workable solution. I set my GRIPOBJLIMIT to 10000 (was previously set at 100). Now the circles disappear when I press ESC. It still takes awhile to create a block, but that might be just because there is a lot of entities.

What spec PC do you have?
My video was 'real time' I didn't see any real delay creating the block?

Question, why create the block? why not use the downloaded file & insert that?

I have a HP Zbook running Win10 pro with 16 GB Ram. GPU is NVIDIA T1200.

I design industrial control panels and they typically have quite a few components. If each component is a block, it makes for easier and simpler design. It makes moving objects around much easier if they are blocks.
Attached is a pic of a sample design.

I worked with many panels like your's in the Oil & Gas sector.
Din Rail mounted components, SAK2.5 terminals, soft starters for large pumps......

So why not insert the downloded file?

Just personal preference I guess, one other thing I do as well is label each block with the part number of the component which makes for easy identification. Sometimes I will add attributes, such as labels, to a block that I have multiples of and it saves time adding text.

You have probably heard of or used software from CADProfi. We use their Electrical addon for schematics, and the way it organizes components is very similar to the way I do it, i.e. each component is a block with editable attributes for name, brand, product type, etc. If each block was just a bunch of lines and text it would take a lot longer to create and edit drawings.

There is probably not a right or wrong way to do this, as I have seen drawings done both ways, however I always appreciate ideas and advice.

Check and delete hidden layers or unnecessary objects in the drawing. You can also use the "Purge" or "Clean Up" feature in the drawing software to remove redundant or unwanted objects.
