Confused About Using Xrefs in IntelliCAD

#1
Hi all,
I’m Skyler, pretty new to IntelliCAD (been using it for about a month). I’ve been trying to work with external references (Xrefs), but I keep running into issues I don’t fully understand.
When I attach another drawing as an Xref Pips NYT, it works at first, but then the paths seem to break if I move files around or send the project to someone else. I’ve also seen the options for attach and overlay, but I’m not really sure what the practical difference is between the two.
Can anyone explain how you usually handle Xrefs in your projects? Things like how to avoid broken paths, how you keep them organized, and when you’d use attach vs overlay. Any simple workflow advice would be super helpful for a beginner like me.
Thanks!

Hi skylerwhite

This is standard behaviour in all .dwg based software. You can't move files around after linking the xrefs.

You can use ETRANSMIT to package up the drawings & x-refs before sending them out.
Other option (and better one in my opinion) is to SAVEAS the drawing and 'bind' the x-refs into your master file.
