IC5

Can someone tell me are drawings modified in IC5 meant to be compatible with IC4??

Having just opend a file in IC5 saved under a new name erased a couple of lines saved & closed. Then tried to open the new drawing in IC4PE+ and it does not open.

Second.
Even tho' I re-size the command line box at the bottom of the screen, each time I re-open IC5 my re-sizeing is ignored/lost??

The default file format for Icad 5 is dwg 2004. Icad 4 (and Acad versions 2002 and older) can not read that format. You need to save as 2000.

I forgot to mention the cammand bar. Mine is the same way. Resize it and it returns to it's usual size upon reopening. I'd like to make it smaller but it won't stay.

IcadCMS 5PE, comments and questions.
- Sometimes it is impossible to extend or trim when working in non axis views.

- With esnap “endpoint” on (flyover off), sometimes even when objects are out of the entity snap aperture when you click on the screen, they are selected.

- When offsetting a polyline that is at an elevation different than the current elevation, the resulting polyline “jumps” to current elevation.

- When drawing a box, the height of the box is always positive, even if the second specified corner has a “z” lower than the first point.
For example, try to draw the following:
First corner: 0,0,1 ; second corner: 1,1,0 - the second corner will “jump” to 0,0,2.
Or the following:
First corner 0,0,0 ; second corner: 0,0,0 ; height = - 1 (negative), the second corner will jump to 0,0,+1 (positive).
This means that you always have to click the lower corner first, or move the created box afterwards.

All the above behaviors were not there in Icad98 ( which I still use, but I am trying to move to CMS5PE, mainly because of real-time sphere when working in 3d, and compatibility with Acad ).

Am I doing something wrong, perhaps there is a setting somewhere that has to be changed, or something like that ?

Another question: I dont use paper space or multiple layouts for most of my work, is it possible to hide the layout bar, in order to save screen space? By the way, being able to choose what you want on the status bar is nice.

Thanks

Thanx CW again, re Command Bar.

This is really annoying,
system Win 98SE, 256K ram.

Another problem just discovered, one of my drawings contains a 3D model with a number (5) viewports in paperspace, works fine in IC4PE+, previews fine in IC5 but when opened only a few of the components are there??

I couldn't begin to guess what is the problem with that file. I have the SE (2D only) version and have never used the 3D version. I do all 3D work in Turbocad.

While the pics may not be that clear, it is obvious that quite a lot of data has been lost.

on a side note, which version of Turbocad supports/compatible with Icad Version 4?? I can get version 8 at a good price here in the Uk, just wondering if it is worth buying??

Sorry about the late reply. I can see that you have a problem with that file. I don't know what the solution is. Hopefully, someone with 3D capable software will jump in here. As far as Turbocad compatibility, version 8 will save in 2000 dwg format so that is no problem. Be aware though that Turbocad comes in three different builds. Designer, Standard and Professional. Professional is the only one that will do ACIS solid modelling. Make sure of the version before buying.

CW thanx again for the reply, as for the time thing, we are all busy people so no problem.

Yes this IS a BIG problem for me and unless I or someone else can solve this problem then Version 5 is of no use to me (anyone from CMS reading this?? please jump in and helpout)

As some parts of the file display ok I tend to think it's not an issue of 'versions' ie my version of IC4 is PE+ and the demo version is the standard version. Or am I wrong??

PS thanx for the tip on Turbocad

Missing entities.

Does the original file have ACIS solid entities? Are these the ones not showing up?

If so, is version 5 of ICAD the PE+ version? If not I do not believe that the ACIS solids entities will show up (note that they will still be in the drawing)

If not the above, maybe try to do a drawing audit.

Hope this helps,

I think we have the answer. You ae using the demo version of Icad 5, right? If so, the reason that your version 4 file will not display in it is that the demo version is standard. It does not support ACIS solids and will not display them. I have had the same problem with Turbocad. People with Designer or Standard cannot open or disply my files correctly because I use the ACIS enabled version.
