If I need to draw a cone that has a 1:8 ratio how do I figure out the angle?

tspco,

Two ways:

1) Using trigonometry:

Tan of the Angle = 8 / 1

Angle = ArcTan 8 / 1

Angle = 82.87 deg.

2) Use CAD:

Draw a line 8 units long in 'x' direction with a 1 unit in 'y' direction then type c to close which forms triangle.

Measure the angle

I finally got back to my cone experiment, it appears that 1:8 is the same as 1.25:10, and the 1.25 is the widest part of the cone, the cone is only 1.40" long, the angle came out to about 7.125 degreew., Thanks John
