This may be the wrong forum but it's the closest one I could think of because there isn't one for ObjectARX.

I've been trying to get up to speed on ObjectARX and during my research I was steered toward the Open Design Alliance product DWGdirect. I've got a few questions that maybe someone can answer.

1. Can DWGdirect be used with IntelliCAD?

2. Are ObjectARX and DWGdirect similar product that perform the similar functions?

3. If you have existing ObjectARX programs written for Acad, would it be difficult to convert them to DWGdirect to be used in IntelliCAD?

I hope these questions make sence. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

1. Can DWGdirect be used with IntelliCAD?

I believe that IntelliCAD was developed using DWGDirect. The old version of IntelliCAD had the old OpenDWG Toolkit as part of it. I think you can use DWGDirect in an SDS application to perform some tasks over dwg files, but I am not sure if you need it.

2. Are ObjectARX and DWGdirect similar product that perform the similar functions?

ObjectARX works only under AutoCAD. DWGDirect allows you to make applications that read/write dwg files without AutoCAD. It also allows you to create application to view dwg files.


3. If you have existing ObjectARX programs written for Acad, would it be difficult to convert them to DWGdirect to be used in IntelliCAD?

If you want to use an ARX program into IntelliCAD, you need to rewrite it using SDS. Forget about DWGDirect. DWGDirect is an exelent tool to create applications that access information of dwg files when you do not have AutoCAD or IntelliCAD. If the application is supposed to run under IntelliCAD, you should consider SDS programming.
